Jaime Alise Yamanaka is a Japanese-American musician and writer based in Tokyo. Her work is shaped by coexistence, presence, embodiment, and memory, informed by both Japanese and Western attunement.
She writes about human emotion and its physical manifestations, and about the relationship between the becoming of one's inner life and the world outside. Her writing lingers on subtle, easily missed moments, and on how attention alters what is perceived, felt, and remembered.
She is also the lead singer and lyricist for the Tokyo-based indie pop group petalhead, and released her debut album, The Uncaging of a Paper Crane. She is currently completing her first poetry and essay collection while continuing to release music and perform in Tokyo.
